A summer program designed to immerse teachers and undergraduates in engineering research inspired by nature’s wonders to build their own knowledge base. Over six weeks, teacher researchers will become members of an ongoing research and collaboration community, and develop tools to bring their experiences and knowledge into the classroom. Over ten weeks, undergraduate researchers will produce and present novel research results, become members of an ongoing research and collaboration community, and develop tools to bring their experiences and knowledge to a broader audience.

Teachers:  June 22 through July 31, 2009
Undergraduates:  June 8 through August 14, 2009

Undergraduate students are invited to participate in a ten week summer research program sponsored by the National Science Foundation and the University of Delaware.  Benefits to students include:

  • An immersive research experience with hands on laboratory work supported by a $4500 Research Fellowship.

  • Broad exposure to nature inspired engineering in areas such as biomedical imaging, ultrasonic sensors, tissue engineering, bio-drug delivery, natural fiber composites, bio-based composite bridges, groundwater system modeling, solar power, robotic flying insects, and bio-sensors for disease management.

  • Academic year follow-up opportunities with University faculty, fellow participants, and a growing online community of NISE focused researchers and teachers.
